Student Chris Nixon has some really impressive projects in his portfolio. I think he has a bright future. I really like his use of materials for some of his projects.

Jessica Hische of Daily Drop Cap fame now has a brilliant store selling all sorts of wonderful typographic prints.

Good friend, photographer and Creative Lynx codemeister Daniel Cohen (aka Graphical Status) has launched his photography portfolio. I really love the simple navigation and full screen photo’s on this site, it really does the photo’s justice.

Whilst I’m on the subject Creative Lynx seems to have had a site overhaul since I last featured them. It’s a super sexy site, albeit a flash based one, with some great work.

Kiosk have just had a healthy site update with some great new work. Go check it out.

Birmingham Zine Festival is taking place between 10th and 12th September. They will feature a wide range of self-published books, comics and magazines and also be showcasing a selection of artwork from artists connected to the alternative press. There’s a brilliant postcard exhibition which you can take part in and a zine fair at the Victoria on the 11th September from 12pm-6pm. Get involved!

Dublin based Studio AAD have a really healthy body of great work. Here’s a great video of Scott Burnett from the studio talking at last years Offset festival.

Following last weeks really great talk by Daniel Eatock (more on this soon), this weeks “Extra Special People” talk is based around the Kecha Pucha format with ESP members, staff and directors at Eastside Projects all giving quick fire presentations. More info HERE. Hope to see you there.

Also scoped out this awesome promo mailer whilst on the Fluid website that they have compiled for Playstation. There is also a really cool case study showing the concepts and production.

Got given this wonderful little zine by Lee Basford (Meisai) that was a part of one of his exhibitions. He’s also Deputy Creative Director over at Birmingham based Fluid so It’s a really nice contrast to see his hand made (often wooden) approach to his personal work as opposed to the polished agency stuff.

Eastside Projects has an amzing new show on with the theme of books. The show includes works by the 2006 Turner Prize winner Simon Starling, John Latham, American artist Nina Katchadourian, Zurich-based artist Rollo Press and more. The show also features a new publication ‘Book’, edited by James Langdon. “Books” runs till Sptember 4th.

Designer of the moment and winner of 2 Grafik stars, James Langdon is also doing a “These are a few of my favourite things” talk at 6:30pm tomorrow at the main Ikon gallery. Should be fun!
